General MCA 60th Anniversary Celebration
Posted by Lada Zednik on Sep 7, 2026, 10:04 a.m.
Come celebrate 60 years of the Minnesota Canoe Association!
Join us Saturday, October 10 for an evening on beautiful Lake Independence as we celebrate MCA’s history, the people who have been part of it, and 60 years of paddling together.
A huge thank you to MCA member Doug McDonald for graciously opening his lakeside home to us for the celebration!
Saturday, October 10
4:00–9:00 PM
Lake Independence, Independence, MN
4:00–5:30 | Meet, Hang Out & Paddle
Come early, catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and get out on the lake. We’ll have some canoes available, but if you have a canoe, we encourage you to bring it!
5:00 | Canoe Group Photo
We want to get as many canoes as possible together on the water for an MCA 60th Anniversary photo. Bring your canoe and help us fill the lake!
5:30–6:30 | Dinner
Pizza, fresh salad, snacks, drinks and more.
6:30–7:30 | 60 Years of MCA
Stories, memories and a little nostalgia as we look back at six decades of MCA. We’ll hear from longtime members and share some of the people, races, adventures and stories that have made MCA what it is today.
7:30–7:45 | Tour de Paddle Awards
We’ll wrap up this year’s Tour de Paddle and recognize our award winners.
7:45–9:00 | Socializing & Dessert
Dessert, drinks and plenty of time to visit. We’ll also have old Hut newsletters and other MCA memorabilia available to browse. If you have some MCA history of your own, bring your stories!
REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED
Clicking “Going” on Facebook does NOT register you for the celebration. Everyone attending MUST register through the MCA website:
https://www.mncanoe.org/events/50/register/
The exact address and additional details will be provided to registered attendees.
Whether you’ve been part of MCA for decades, joined us recently, or are somewhere in between, we hope you’ll come celebrate with us.
