General Public Comment Requested on Development Impacting Rice Creek

Many MCA members regularly paddle Rice Creek in the Twin Cities. We received the following information about a proposed development near the creek:
Hello Minnesota Canoe Association,
I’m reaching out about a major new proposed development that poses impacts to Rice Creek starting in Shoreview/Arden Hills: the proposed Hillview Business Park in Arden Hills by Rice Creek. I am reaching out as your group of paddlers might be interested in being informed and providing input.
A developer has purchased 62 acres off County Road I and Fairview Ave. to build a massive 5-building industrial complex totaling almost 1 million square feet in office/warehouse space. Because this project sits adjacent to Rice Creek, we are deeply concerned about its impact on the vital natural area.
The scale of the proposed business park has created significant complications regarding municipal water and sewer hookups. To resolve these infrastructure limitations, the developer is exploring routing a major utility hookup either directly underneath or over Rice Creek.
This could destabilize banks, accelerate erosion, impact native vegetation, pollute the water, create obstacles for paddlers and impact the scenery of the area.
The project has triggered a mandatory environmental review, but the developer only notified a tiny fraction of the surrounding community and stakeholders and in a very short amount of time.
